How does this work?

Aromatic molecules travel up the nasal passage where they bind to olfactory receptor cells in the nose. The cell sends impulses to the olfactory bulb at the base of the forebrain.

The forebrain usually interprets the electrical impulses as a smell and rapidly processes and responds to the essential oil's unique aroma and properties

Molecules are also inhaled directly from the nasal passages into the lungs, and from these enter the bloodstream, contributing to the healing effect of essential oils

Aromatherapeutic oils are believed to work by stimulating the olfactory system, the part of the brain that is responsible for the smell. When we inhale essential oils, the molecules travel to the olfactory bulb, which is located at the base of the brain. The olfactory bulb sends signals to the limbic system, which involves emotions, memory, and behaviour.
